Dysport 101: Everything You Need to Know About Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

DysportAntiwrinkle

Anti-wrinkle treatments are a type of injectable treatment that aims to reduce facial lines and wrinkles.¹ Dysport® is Galderma’s anti-wrinkle brand - it contains a type of Botulinum toxin that temporarily reduces muscle activity in the area it’s injected.

When it comes to anti-wrinkle treatments, you may have a few questions about what exactly the product is, how it works, what it treats and what you can expect from the treatment. To help answer some of these questions, we spoke to Galderma’s Head of Clinical ANZ, Debi Bottema. Read on to hear what she had to say.

So, what is Dysport®?

“Dysport® is a prescription medicine that aims to help smooth moderate to severe frown lines and crows feet (also known as glabellar lines and lateral canthal lines) without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face, so it’s great for those seeking natural-looking results,” says Debi.

How does it work, and who should get it?

Dysport® treatments involve tiny injections of Botulinum toxin, which targets muscles to smooth the overlying skin. Debi says it works by reducing movement in treated areas of your face.

“When you go to your treatment, Dysport® will be injected into the area of concern. Dysport® is available for anyone over 18 concerned with moderate to severe frown lines or crow’s feet. It can work well for those with busy schedules who wish to appear more relaxed, as the treatment only takes approximately 10-20 minutes, with minimal to no downtime,” says Debi.

What areas does Dysport® treat?

Debi says that Dysport® can be used to treat glabellar lines - that is, the wrinkles that form between your eyebrows, otherwise known as frown lines.

“It treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. One injection into each of the 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines,” says Debi. A second area that Dysport® treats is the lateral canthal lines, more commonly know as our 'smile lines', on either side of our eyes.

What can you expect from a Dysport® treatment?

Dysport® treatment generally takes 10-20 minutes. The time and number of injections given will vary depending on which areas are being treated.

So, how much should you get?

“It's important to consult your healthcare practitioner who can advise on what’s best for your concerns and skin type to provide a treatment plan tailored to you,’ says Debi.

Studies with Dysport® have shown reliable, long-lasting results that satisfy patients for up to six months.2 You can start seeing results within 2-3 days of your treatment, sometimes as early as 24 hours.2-7

Once you know what you’re after, book in with a qualified healthcare practitioner who can help you to achieve your treatment goals. It is recommended that you consult with a trained Healthcare Practitioner for a consultation and to discuss the benefits and risks of the treatment, as well as agree on an individualised treatment plan to help you achieve your treatment goals.
